Here’s each type of home additions & house extensions, and a bit of info about each:

Single-Storey House Extension

Often referred to as a traditional extension or conventional extension, a single storey home extension is any home addition that adds more indoor space to only the first story of your house. When these are built well enough, it’s impossible to notice that they weren’t part of the original home.

Two-Storey House Extension

This type of extension adds to both levels of a two-storey home, and adding one can be an excellent strategy to accommodate for a growing family or provide more breathing room for someone who works from home. As an added bonus, they provide twice the space of a single-storey extension for around one and a half times the price (usually).

Rear House Extension

If you’re looking to create a more seamless transition from your house to the great outdoors without impacting the street view of the home, this is the right choice for you. Typically, this type of extension is single-storey and offers the facility to let in a wide spread of open air.

Wraparound Extension

These extensions add to both the side and rear of your home, which is why they’re sometimes referred to as L-shaped extensions. They’re usually one open space, but it’s possible to section them off into multiple rooms as well.

Over-Structure Extension

As you might expect, an over-structure extension is a vertical extension that adds space over the top of an existing space; they’re most commonly built on top of garages. If you have limited land to work with, this could be the perfect solution.

Sunroom

This can most easily be described as a rear extension that’s built to let in a lot of natural light. While they’re typically built to benefit from the home’s central heating, they’re not intended to be year-round living areas and often have doors to close them off from the rest of the home.

Garage Conversion

While not technically an extension, a garage conversion adds living space to the home by reinforcing the structure of the walls and adding flooring that’s better-suited to an interior space.
