House Dormer Addition in Nassau County, NY!
In order to give you a little bit of insight, we’ve laid out the five most common classifications of dormer additions below:
Gable
This is the most common type of house dormer, probably due to its versatility. Their pointed shape helps to direct rainwater flow away from the windows, and they add a lot of vertical headroom. In many cases, you’ll see several of these on the same roof.
Eyebrow
Named for its wide arc shape, an eyebrow dormer stands out from the street with a bold architectural statement. This makes them a perfect choice for homeowners who want to highlight an indoor feature within close range of the window.
Segmental
Known for having a slightly higher arc than an eyebrow dormer, a segmental dormer addition is less flashy while still largely accomplishing the same architectural goals.
Shed
This type of house dormer is known for being typically large, and probably the best option for maximizing interior space. They can be as large as the entire roofline, sometimes to the point where they’re more accurately described as an entirely different story of the house.
Hipped
These house dormers are wide in length and marked by their unique bell curve shape. They’re usually accompanied by a semicircular window beneath, which fits nicely within the curve. Hipped dormers come with the added benefit of providing extra head height.
